The Latest in Digital Picture Frames

Now that you own a really nice digital camera, what's next?
Why not look into owning one of the latest technologies in
electronics: a digital picture frame. These frames are
available in today's marketplace in several varieties; each
with a different design tactic that functions from the
simplistic to the ultimate. The allure of these classy yet
pricey new gadgets is peaked by those who already own the
latest in technology and are poised for another upscale item
for their home or office.

The VistaFrame is one type of digital picture frame. Geared
toward the average consumer, VistaFrame~s dimensions, shape
and size resemble the simple plastic picture frame that's in
a slanted L-shape and can easily slide a 4 x 6 or a 5 x 7
photo into its build. This sophisticated little device has
many more features than its predecessor stationary plastic
frame; the VistaFrame has a viewing area, memory card,
motion detector, control buttons, and other special features
like a slide show. The viewing area is composed of a
6.8-inch LCD flat screen display, bordered by a sleek
silver-metallic flat frame. Up to four kinds of digital
picture memory cards are Isabel in VistaFrame; up to eight
pictures can be saved in the frame's separate memory. When
the motion detector is activated ~ such as by insertion of a
new memory card or by pressing the start button ~ the
VistaFrame screen comes to life. Pictures are oriented by
control buttons, which position the pictures properly in the
frame. Another great feature of this little device is you
can select to display one picture at a time or run a
continuous slide show. Retail cost for the VistaFrame is
around $250.

Another similar device for the consumer is the Digital
Picture Frame Photo Viewer. The handy little device can
be carried in your briefcase because images are displayed
on a built-in 3.5 inch LCD screen. Like the previous
device, you can show one picture continuously or develop
a slide show at the speed that you select. Again, the
user can orient each picture. This little device supports
three types of memory cards. This device will also plug
into a television set and allows the photos to display on
the TV screen. However, it appears that the software
interface is a bit cumbersome when the user loads pictures.
The retail price is $130.

Looking for a really slim digital picture frame? The
Bigframe claims to be the thinnest on the market: less than
2 inches from front to back. The frame size is a 19-inch
LCD screen and comes in gold, silver or black edges. Its
sleek design is meant to hang on the wall very well and
displays both digital pictures and Mpeg Movie playback.
Retail cost for this digital picture frame, at full size and
all decked out with every feature, is $800.

This is just a sampling of the digital picture frames
available in the marketplace today. More exotic models
look more like a traditional artistic frame and come with
additional features as prices move into the thousands of
dollars. Over the next few years, expect to see digital
picture frames hanging in all kinds of public places to
entertain and inform the public as they pass by.
